BIOGRAPHIES

2013-2014-calypso-contestant-king-kanKing “King Kan Fu Plentae” Kan was born on the Island of Antiqua as Campbell Barnes; and has recently changed his name to King Kan. He has been living in the United States Virgin Islands, in particular St. Croix for the past 22 years. He competed in Calypso competitions in Antiqua and has been competing in both St. Croix and St. Thomas for the past 10 years. He has won a total of 10 crowns. He says he is very passionate about education and is an accounting teacher at the St. Croix Educational Complex High School

 

 

 

2013-2014-calypso-contestant-blazerPaul “King Blazer” Bryan, this is King Blazer’s first time competing in the Calypso Competition on St. Croix and has been singing since 1984. He won Calypso Monarch in Anquilla in 1994 and in 2008 was one of the Calypso Monarch’s in St. Kitts; he also competed in Canada where he received First Runner Up in 2010. He says Calypso is his sport and loves the competition whether win or lose.

 

 

 

 

 

2013-2014-calypso-contestant-temisha-libertTamiesha “Caribbean Queen” Liebert. I Temisha ” Caribbean Queen” Libert fails to see the purpose of being a non participant in ones life and pride myself as an active young woman who truly loves her home. Currently as the 2013 Miss Travel in Style “I’m Every Woman Queen,” I have taken on the arduous task of representing the VI in numerous pageants and brought the crown home. I enjoy the opportunity of being able to share with the world what years of polishing and gifts that I have been blessed with. God grants us all with numerous gifts of talent and after winning the 2009 Virgin Islands Idol, I realized that it is up to every individual to use it to the best of their ability and flourish others with it. This is my calling as the 2012 1st runner up Calypso Monarch winner, to encourage other young people to embrace our culture, lend a helping hand in seeking change and as for me, singing is just of the ways I know how to.

 

2013-2014-calypso-contestant-spadeCedric “Spade” Brookes has been singing for the past few years, he has won a number of crowns. He says he will continue to sing until Jah says he’s done.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2013-2014-calypso-contestant-mighty-patSamuel “Mighty Pat” Ferdinand has won 14 crowns throughout the Caribbean. He sees himself as an entertainer, he sings everything to include ballads, calypso, reggae, and country and western you name it. He says he’s a versatile singer.

 

 

 

 

 

2013-2014-calypso-contestant-king-emanuelEmanuel “King Emanuel” Henry has been singing for about 11 years with the Crucian Christmas Festival and now his first competition with Crucian Christmas Carnival. He has been in and out of the field; however it continues to call him back time and time again. He says he enjoys singing as it is a part of his life.

 

 

 

 

 

 

2013-2014-calypso-contestant-sawdustHector “Sawdust” Alexander was born and raised on the Island of Dominica. This is his first time in the Calypso Competition. He is a Carpenter by trade and began this type of work at an early age, the reason for the chosen stage name “Sawdust”. He is member of the Dominican United Cultural Group here on St. Croix. He says that Isha Alexander his wife supports him one hundred percent.

 

 

 

 

 

2013-2014-calypso-contestant-nikkiLynda “Nikki” Brooks was the first woman to ever win the Title of Calypso Monarch. Since then she has sang with Imagination Brass, Vio International, and Image Band out of D.C. and the most recent Hartatack Band. Besides her 2 kids Music is her life. “Keeping the Culture Alive”

 

 

 

 

 

 

2013-2014-calypso-contestant-genericMorris “Generic” Benjamin started singing from 1988 and was the first Virgin Islander to win three crowns in one year and has won a total of twelve crowns. He wants to thank his fans for their support as he loves to perform for them. He says to let his fans know that he loves them and will continue to perform for them.

 

 

 

 

 

 

2013-2014-calypso-contestant-liberatorAugustin “Liberator” St. Luis has started his singing career with a Church Group by the name of Joyful 6 in Dominica. He started competing 1976 in Dominica then moved to Trinidad where he sang with Sparrow Young Brigade as well as the Kingdom of the Wizard Calypso Tent. He won a couple of crowns in Dominica 1983 and 1985. He is a member of the Performing Rights Society of London. He is a well-rounded musician playing keyboard and guitar as well as a professional song writer. He also has four recording albums and is presently registered with DMI Broadcast Music Inc. He is working on a new album and is hoping to release it in the upcoming year. He has been in the competition here in the pass, so he is no stranger to the Crucian Christmas Festival now Crucian Christmas Carnival stage.
